Ingredients
For the Layers:

Chocolate sponge cake or chocolate loaf cake, cut into cubes

1 jar or can cherries in syrup (or fresh cherries macerated in sugar)

1 batch chocolate custard (custard mixed with melted dark chocolate)

Whipped cream, sweetened to taste

Optional: cherry liqueur for drizzling
For Garnish:

Chocolate shavings or grated chocolate
Instructions

Prepare Cake Base: Cut cake into cubes and place in the bottom of a trifle bowl. Drizzle with cherry syrup or liqueur if desired.

Add Cherry Layer: Scatter cherries over the cake. Reserve some syrup for later if desired.

Pour Chocolate Custard: Warm custard and mix in melted dark chocolate until smooth. Cool slightly, then pour over cherries.

Whip the Cream: Beat cream to soft/medium peaks and layer on top of custard.

Chill: Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (overnight preferred).

Garnish & Serve: Top with fresh cherries and chocolate shavings before serving.
