Equipment

  • 1 large skillet

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 –2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce or ketchup
  • 2 –3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 –2 tablespoons brown sugar optional
  • 1 teaspoon mustard Dijon or yellow
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 4 –6 hamburger buns
  • Optional toppings: sliced cheese pickles, extra mustard or ketchup

Instructions

  • Cook ground beef and chopped onion in a large skillet over medium heat until beef is browned and onion is soft, breaking up meat as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
  • Add minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Stir in tomato sauce or ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar (if using), and mustard. Mix well and bring to a simmer.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce thickens and coats the beef.
  • Serve mixture on hamburger buns and add optional toppings as desired.

Notes

  • Add hot sauce or chili powder for heat.
  • Include diced bell peppers or carrots for extra texture.
  • Serve with fries, chips, or salad.
  • Keep warm in a slow cooker for parties.
