Equipment

  • 1 9x13-inch baking dish lightly greased
  • 1 large skillet for cooking meat

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef or lean ground meat
  • 1 packet taco seasoning or 2–3 tablespoons homemade taco spice mix
  • 1 to 1¼ cups salsa or tomato-based sauce
  • 1 8-ounce refrigerated crescent-roll dough package
  • 1 to 1½ cups shredded cheese cheddar, Mexican blend, or your choice
  • Optional toppings: sour cream chopped lettuce, diced tomato, chopped green onion, olives, salsa, or hot sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 °F and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Unroll the crescent-roll dough and press it evenly into the baking dish, sealing seams to form a crust.
  • Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat until browned, then drain excess fat.
  • Add taco seasoning and salsa to the meat, stir well, and simmer until the mixture thickens slightly.
  • Spread the meat mixture evenly over the crescent-roll crust in the baking dish.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese over the seasoned meat layer.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, until the crust is golden and cheese is melted.
  • Remove from oven and let rest for 5–10 minutes, then cut into slices.
  • Serve warm with optional toppings like sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes, green onions, olives, or extra salsa.

Notes

  • For extra veggies, stir in diced bell pepper, onions, or corn with the meat mixture.
  • Add jalapeños or hot sauce for a spicy kick.
  • Substitute ground turkey or other lean protein for a lighter dish.
  • Pairs well with salad, rice, beans, or guacamole.
