- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ onion finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 cup crushed tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 burger buns
- 4 slices mozzarella or cheddar cheese
- 2 –3 tablespoons tomato ketchup
- Optional: fresh basil or parsley
Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat and sauté the chopped onion until soft, about 2 to 3 minutes.
Add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper; simmer for 8 to 10 minutes until the sauce thickens.
Form ground beef into four patties and season with salt and pepper.
Cook patties in a skillet or on a grill over medium-high heat for 4 to 5 minutes per side.
Place a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover briefly until melted.
Lightly toast the burger buns in a pan or oven until golden.
Assemble the burger by placing the cheesy patty on the bottom bun, spooning warm Italian meat sauce over it, drizzling ketchup, and adding fresh herbs if desired; close with the top bun.
Serve hot immediately for a fresh, melty finish.
- Use mozzarella cheese for an authentic Italian flavor.
- Sprinkle parmesan cheese on top for added richness.
- Toast buns with butter for better texture and flavor.
