1 skillet for sautéing mushrooms and onions
1 grill or skillet for cooking burgers
1 bowl for mixing burger ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef 80/20 for best juiciness
- Salt to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp butter for sautéing
- 8 oz sliced mushrooms button or cremini
- 1 small onion thinly sliced
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 4 burger buns
- Optional toppings: lettuce tomato, pickles, mayo, mustard
In a bowl, gently mix ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Form into 4 patties slightly wider than buns.
Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced mushrooms and onions, cook until golden and tender, about 6 to 8 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, then remove from heat.
Preheat grill or skillet to medium-high heat. Cook burger patties 3 to 4 minutes per side for medium doneness. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty during last minute to melt.
Optionally, lightly toast burger buns on grill or in a toaster for added texture.
Assemble burgers by placing cheesy patties on buns, topping with sautéed mushrooms and onions, and adding optional toppings as desired.
- Swap Swiss cheese with Gruyère or provolone for variation.
- Handle meat gently when forming patties for best juiciness.
- Add balsamic vinegar to mushrooms for extra flavor.
- Serve with fries, chips, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
