Equipment

  • 1 skillet for sautéing mushrooms and onions
  • 1 grill or skillet for cooking burgers
  • 1 bowl for mixing burger ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 for best juiciness
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp butter for sautéing
  • 8 oz sliced mushrooms button or cremini
  • 1 small onion thinly sliced
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 burger buns
  • Optional toppings: lettuce tomato, pickles, mayo, mustard

Instructions

  • In a bowl, gently mix ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Form into 4 patties slightly wider than buns.
  • Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced mushrooms and onions, cook until golden and tender, about 6 to 8 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, then remove from heat.
  • Preheat grill or skillet to medium-high heat. Cook burger patties 3 to 4 minutes per side for medium doneness. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty during last minute to melt.
  • Optionally, lightly toast burger buns on grill or in a toaster for added texture.
  • Assemble burgers by placing cheesy patties on buns, topping with sautéed mushrooms and onions, and adding optional toppings as desired.

Notes

  • Swap Swiss cheese with Gruyère or provolone for variation.
  • Handle meat gently when forming patties for best juiciness.
  • Add balsamic vinegar to mushrooms for extra flavor.
  • Serve with fries, chips, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
