- 4 bone-in or boneless chicken pieces thighs, breasts, or mixed
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 small onion sliced
- 2 to 3 garlic cloves minced
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 packet about 1 ounce gravy mix OR 2 to 3 tablespoons flour or cornstarch for thickening
- 2 to 3 tablespoons butter or oil
- Optional: fresh herbs thyme, rosemary, parsley for garnish
Season the chicken pieces on all sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Place the sliced onion and minced garlic in the bottom of the slow cooker.
Nestle the seasoned chicken on top of the onions and garlic.
Pour the chicken broth around the chicken. If using dry gravy mix, sprinkle it evenly over the top.
Cover and cook on low for 6 to 7 hours or high for 3 to 4 hours until chicken is tender and fully cooked.
Remove the chicken and keep warm. For flour or cornstarch gravy, mix it with cold water to form a slurry.
Whisk the slurry into the slow cooker juices. Cook on high for 10 to 15 minutes to thicken the gravy.
Spoon gravy over the chicken and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
- Adjust flour or cornstarch to get desired gravy thickness.
- Add Worcestershire sauce or cream for richer flavor.
- Include carrots and potatoes in slow cooker for a complete meal.
- Store leftovers refrigerated up to 3 days.
